Alan Whitehead

Alan Whitehead was born in 1952. He has always been interested in the sea and ships, spending six formative years in the Royal Navy. During this time Alan taught himself to paint, concentrating on marine and nautical subjects. On leaving the Navy he began to paint professionally.

Alan has taken easily to watercolour, and his knowledge of the east coast of England, and particularly of the classical sailing barge, is reflected in his work.
